Botanic gardens
Right on our doorstep, in fact you can even see the beautiful Botanic Gardens from some of our bedrooms. The south facing gardens on the banks of the River Tay is host to a wide range of plants, flowers and herbs. It even has a tropical and temperature controlled glasshouse filled with imported plants from all over the world.
If you work up an appetite, there is a little coffee shop selling freshly baked cakes and sandwiches nestled in the middle of the gardens.

2. V&A Dundee
Scotland’s first ever design museum, opened in 2018, is a popular spot with locals and tourists. The architecture is one reason to visit alone, the award-winning building is inspired by the dramatic coastal cliffs of North-East Scotland.
At the heart of the museum, the Scottish Design Gallery features the artwork from over 300 local artists. The popular tearoom has wonderful views of the River Tay and there is even a gift shop too. The V&A inspires Scottish design and hosts major exhibitions, it’s a must visit if you are exploring Dundee.
3. Dundee museum of transport
A fantastic day out for all the family as you dive into the story of Dundee’s Transport. The popular museum has a bit of everything from the tram network, railways, maritime history and everything in between. Meet the enthusiastic guides who will share tales of the past, present and even the future of Dundee’s Transport – don’t forget to look out for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
5. broughty castle museum
Broughty Castle Museum is a 15th century coastal fort on the banks of the River Tay. It has faced many sieges and battles but today houses a fascinating museum displaying the life and times of brought ferry, its people, history and wildlife. With magnificent views over the river and minutes from Broughty Ferry beach it’s no wonder it’s in our top 10.
7. Law Hill
Law Hill is known by locals as ‘The Law’ and sits proudly in the centre of Dundee. At 174m high, the Law is an easy walk and popular with families. From the top you can see over 45 miles to fife and Perthshire (on a clear day!) so remember to pack your binoculars. The remains of a volcanic still and topped with a large war memorial at the summit, The Law is full of history too.
9. whitehall theatre
The 700-seater auditorium is the perfect place to spend any evening. Hosting everything from musicals to dramas and pantomimes, you can enjoy some live entertainment in Dundee. Laugh into the evening with some stand-up comedy or dance away to music from some of your favourite artists.
4. HMS UNICORN
This is one for the history fans. HMS Unicorn is almost 200 years old, the historic ship is restored as a museum and visitor centre in the heart of Dundee. The Unicorn was built in 1824 for the Royal Navy and came to rest in Dundee in 1873 where it was used as a training ship for the Royal Navy Conserves. The collection aboard the ship helps to tell the story of the Unicorn and can be enjoyed by all ages.

Can you find Oor Wullie in Dundee? Everyone’s favourite wee laddie has been cast in a 4ft bronzed sculpture in the centre of Dundee. Since appearing in the Sunday Post over 80 years ago, Oor Wullie has become a much loved part of Scottish Heritage.
8. Dundee science centre
Bringing people together through science.
Explore the wonders of Science at Dundee’s Science Centre. Immerse yourself in over 80 hands-on, fun activities. With often changing exhibitions, this is a great family day out. Fuel up at the café and explore the gift shop to remember your day.
10. Golf courses
Taypark house is surrounded by some of the most famous golf courses in the world.
Just a short 30 minute drive away you’ll find world famous Carnoustie links. The Champions course has proudly hosted The Open eight times, so it’s only natural this course should be on your bucket list. For the golf enthusiasts, there are three 18-hole courses here and a short 5-hole course called The Nestie.
Right on our doorstep, Downfield Golf Club is a popular course, described as ‘one of the best inland courses in Britain’ by Paul Lawrie (1999 Open Champion). Combining wonderful scenery with natural wildlife, Downfield offers a challenging but enjoyable experience to all golfers.
“The Home of Golf”. To play the famous Old Course is any golfers dream, the first game of golf ever was played here 600 years ago. All seven links courses are challenging with spectacular views of the coast and only a short 25 minutes from our front door – what’s not to love?
